Indie singer-songwriter Zoe ko: creates a perfectly imperfect moment of heartbreak with new upcoming single

Today I’m very happy to share with you someone who has been one of my biggest musical secrets this year. Zoe Ko is a New York-based independent alternative pop artist, who at 21 years old has already performed at SOB’s, The Apollo Theater, and BMI Acoustic Lounge, not to mention her latest single “Line” (which has been out for only a couple of months) has already charted in several Spotify playlists including “Fresh Finds”.

As a new rising artist, Zoe has found herself rediscovering who she is. She’s been working professionally in the music industry for over 2 years, and with the release of her first single “Line”, everything has changed immensely. This is the first time she truly represents herself as an artist, and with big changes in this space comes bigger challenges and a little bit of some self-doubt at times. You can trust the final result will always be greater.

So far I’ve been so incredibly grateful and humbled by how much people have been loving the song, and I really like talking to new fans, I try to have 1-1 conversations with them, I feel like I’m making all these new friends, it’s really sweet!
I think that the biggest challenge is trying to keep this up and give my 100%, and I guess I always was but now I have more singles coming out that will lead to an EP in the next 6 months, there’s just so much work to be done and I have school too, so I’ve been a little overwhelmed with that but I’m super excited!
— Zoe when asked about any challenges as a new rising artist

Well, she did not disappoint and is now bringing us the perfectly imperfect moment of heartbreak.“Til U” comes out on July 21st and we got you an exclusive sneak peek!

Music is the way I process and move through life, it’s something I need! And I love how it connects me to the world, and how it connects other people to each other.
— Ko on her purpose in music

I can confidently say that she is achieving all this with ‘Til U”, which tells a beautiful and all too well-known story about fake promises and broken hearts. This single embraces all the brutal emotions you go through when the person who’s supposed to be next to you till the end burns you down in flames.

As an only child music was my best friend growing up, and I think it still is even though I have friends and family around me, is my supportive friend that I can just hang out and dance with.
I want my music to be the same to people, to be someone’s best friend, get them through a hard time, or connect them with a moment in life that they need to get through
— Zoe on her goal with making music

I couldn´t agree more, music truly does everything a best friend is supposed to do, which brings us to another topic we discussed! It’s important to remember to surround yourself with people you really trust in this industry, and to never stop networking. Always keep it organic and natural, it will take you a long way. If you’re a massive introvert like me, Zoe shared some very good insight from her professor that will help you through it: When networking, you should try and understand yourself first and know what environment you thrive best, that way you can set up 1-1 meetings where you can be 100% yourself and have a genuine interaction.

Finally, we asked Zoe if she had any advice for rising artists and professionals reading this, here’s what she had to say.

“Do not compare yourself to others and focus on your own path, it is very easy to drive yourself down by thinking you’re not good enough, or you’re not doing the exact same thing this other person is doing and it’s working out for them. There’s enough room for everyone, and trust that what you’re making is going to relate to people and people will appreciate it, and of course be yourself!”

There’s no better way to get to know someone than by their taste in music. Check out what Zoe’s been listening to lately!
