The Multi-Genre Genius, Music is Music- Kajo

Who is Kajo is the right question to ask at the moment, and I am here to tell you that he may just be your new favorite artist of the year. As if you didn’t need another reason to become Kajo’s #1 fan, here are some of the artist that he grew up listen to; Portishead, Massive Attack, My Bloody Valentine, Peter Gabriel, and likes a lot of jazz bands.

He was born in the Philippines and moved to the states at a young age. Kajo is signed with Logic’s label, BobbyBoy Records, and this all started by teaching Logic piano, which led to touring with him.

When it comes to Kajo’s art, you just have to watch his music videos to get the full experience. Each Music video has its own artistic vision. The song ‘28 Club’ based on his experiences as a 28-year-old. For his listeners, who are younger, may not relate to the ‘28 Club’ and they probably won’t until they reach their late 20s. At the end of the day with the pressures of social media to have life figured out so soon, I think younger listeners can get a feel of what their youth slipping away and seeing their dreams change. It is kind of in relation to what it means to be in the 27 club. Obviously, this is a sad, dark, twisted club to manifest being a part of, but it is a roaster full of legends who are true artistic geniuses.

“I really made it

Wasn't good enough to die last year

(Weird flex, but okay)”

What does it mean to be 28? Well today, it means we need to have our lives together before reaching 30. Whatever we choose what success looks like for us, whether it's having a family, reaching socialite status, and finally being the CEO of a tech company. We need to be these things by the age of 30. These are the things we pressure ourselves, the pressures from social media, and just what society has made us think. If we do not accomplish all these things, then we are failures to society, but what society forgets to mention is artists like Jay-Z, who is now a billionaire and a very decorated artist got their big break at 30.

“Somehow, someday

I'll break out, I'll escape

Twenty-eight anything can happen

Twenty-eight got something to prove

Twenty-eight I'm hoping for some action

Twenty-eight got nothing left to lose

Got nothing left to lose”

His single ‘28 Club’ is just a taste of his new album, Cold Places, which was released last Friday. Cold Places is about death.

“There's no way to tell the Absolute Truth or confirm the truth. We all just kind of make our own conclusions that we derive from things that are left to us. It's up to you to interpret. It's up to you to respond.”- Kajo
